The Power of Sweetness
Love is not only something that happens. It can be prepared for, called in, and strengthened.

There is a power in sweetness. Not the kind that comes from sugar, but the living sweetness of presence, attraction, and grace. In Umbanda, Quimbanda, and Espiritismo, love is not only something that happens. It can be prepared for, called in, and strengthened. These baths are not only for romance. They are for self-love, confidence, and the magnetic fire that draws people, blessings, and opportunities. They lift the film of doubt, brighten the spirit, and make the body remember its beauty.
In Umbanda, they often carry the touch of Oxum, goddess of fresh waters, gold, and seduction. Basil, lavender, sweet fennel, white roses, and rose water are common, taken on Fridays under the waxing moon. In Quimbanda, they may be offered to Pomba Gira, queen of crossroads and mirrors, scented with hibiscus, cinnamon, patchouli, and wine, awakening not only desire but presence. In Espiritismo, they may be gentler, made for those healing from loss or fear, fragrant with petals, Kananga Water, and honey.
Whatever the tradition, intention matters most. A simple white rose in clean water can be more powerful than the most elaborate mixture without spirit behind it. These baths are not about chasing love. They are about becoming ready to meet it, to stand in your worth, and to call what truly belongs to you.
The Honeyed Mirror – A Bath of Self-Love and Spiritual Attraction
Prepare a bath with fresh basil, white rose petals, a splash of rose water, and a generous spoon of pure honey. Add a few drops of a perfume that makes you feel most yourself. As the herbs steep, stir the bath slowly and speak aloud the qualities you wish to embody.
Pour the bath from head to toe, preferably on a Friday evening during the waxing moon. Let the water run over you without rush. Afterwards, wear light colours, anoint your wrists with perfume, and spend the evening in beauty or quiet. This bath draws you back to yourself. And when that happens, the world will follow.
I write about these works in Sacred Waters: Spiritual Baths from Umbanda, Quimbanda, & Espiritismo. A bath can be a prayer you step into, a mirror that shows you your own radiance, and a blessing you carry on your skin.
